Following the sack of five governors by the supreme court today, one of the affected states, Kogi has been plunged into a peculiar mess as two new governors emerged in the state this evening and the two sworn in by judicial officers.

While the elected governor, Idris Wada and his deputy, Yomi Awoniyi were sworn in on the order of the sacked governor Ibrahim Idris at about 3.30 pm local time, the state house of assembly speaker, Abdullahi Bello was sworn in at about 6.20 pm on the orders of Nigeria’s controversial Attorney General, Bello Adoke who invariably comes from the troubled state.

Soon after the supreme court delivered it’s ruling earlier today sacking the governors of Kogi, Adamawa, Sokoto, Bayelsa and Cross River, Adoke issued a statement directing that house of assembly speakers of the affected states be sworn in as acting governors. Obviously sensing that Adoke who is said to have been having running battles with him, Governor Idris immediately asked that the governor elect, Wada should be sworn in, an assignment the state chief judge refused to perform after which the president of the customary court of appeal was called in to apply the oath of office on Wada.

ireports-ng.com gathered that Idris defiance infuriated Adoke who in turn invoked President Jonathan’s name to instruct the Director General of the Department of State Security to get his men in Kogi to install the state assembly speaker.

Consequently, the  state director of the service was given a marching order to go and produce the speaker who was virtually dragged into the government house for the swearing in which took place at exactly 6.18 pm

Security was beefed up at the state  Chief judge office where the swearing in ceremony took place , while security details already attached to Wada and those left with Ibrahim Idris who already ceased to be the governor of the state were withdrawn.

Chief Judge of the state, Justice Nasir Ajanah while administering the oath of office on the speaker sai the oath was administered on the speaker in accordance with the judgement of the supreme court delivered earlier today.

He said the acting governor would be in office until a  a new election is conducted in the state which will produce a substansive governor.
