Boko Haram Kills 7 As Explosions Rock Maiduguri

No fewer than seven persons were in the early hours of today butchered by members of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram who also threw residents of the Borno state capital, Maiduguri into confusion as they planted bombs which defeaning explosions resonated in different parts of the city.

The blasts which started midnight of Wednesday lasted till the early hours of today at different locations within the metropolis while residents around the areas were gripped with fears throughout the night.

Beside the explosions, ireports-ng.com also gathered that the seven men killed were slaughtered by four suspected Boko Haram members at Kawar Maila area of Shehuri North in Maiduguri at about 12 midnight on Wednesday.The assailants were said to have stormed the area, knocked doors of the selected houses and brought out their targets before they were butchered.

One of the slain victims was identified by residents of the area as Zannah Mamman alias Goi Goi who was until his death a driver at the Governor’s Office in the state Secretariat. He was allegedly killed in the presence of his wife while another victim was identified as Baba Gana Shettima.

Spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Lt Colonel Hassan Ifijeh Mohammed who confirmed the development in a statement said the explosion “occurred from Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the early hours of this morning in Maiduguri metropolis while some unexploded IEDs were defused by the JTF.”

He further said that “In Lawar Maila in Shehuri North, 6 persons were killed. Preliminary investigation reveals that the 6 deceased were suspected to have been slaughtered by persons suspected to be their fellow sect members. The incident occurred in the area where 11 sect members had an encounter with the JTF troops last weekend. The killing may have been as a result of division among sect members.”
