Three Killed, Others Injured As Gunmen Attack Market In Maiduguri
Barely 24 hours after President Goodluck Jonathan lifted the emergency rule imposed on 15 local government areas in Northern Nigeria including the Maiduguri metropolitan council, no fewer than three persons have been reportedly shot dead today around the Monday Market located within the Maiduguri metropolis by gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram islamist sect. A number of others were also said to have been wounded in the attack.
According to fear stricken residents, the incident, which happened at about 12pm local time, forced traders and residents who were busy with their Ramadan shopping to flee the market. General Manager of the market, Alhaji Ajiya Terrab who confirmed the incident said “Some gunmen actually attacked the market and killed three traders while two other persons were injured.”
