Exclusive: Multi-Billion Dollars Hidden Bank Accounts Of Jonathan’s Minister Of Justice, Bello Adoke Exposed

Barely 48 hours after an online publication exposed the sordid details of a N1.2 billion mansion just purchased by President Goodluck Jonathan’s Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,in Maitama area of Abuja, ireports-ng.com has uncovered four secret bank accounts where billions of naira, millions of US dollars and GB pounds are hidden by Nigeria’s present Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke.

Adoke was appointed as Justice Minister by President Jonathan on April 6, 2010 and has since then been enmeshed in various allegations of corruption and providing cover for the corrupt who are facing court trial by withdrawing corruption charges against them.

Weeks of underground investigations by ireports-ng.com have however revealed more shocking details about Adoke’s secret bank accounts in the nation’s federal capital territory, Abuja. One of such is an account number at a branch of First City Monument Bank located at ,Central Area Abuja. In the account is a stunning sum of $16 million US dollars.

Further investigations revealed that Adoke is keeping yet another $24 million US dollars in account number with Diamond Bank located at Plot 117 Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Wuse 2 while another 5.3 million Great Britain Pounds is also kept in the same account with Diamond Bank.

As if that was not enough, ireports-ng.com also revealed that Nigeria’s Justice Minister operates another secret account with the Ahmadu Bello Way branch of Zenith Bank, Abuja where a whooping sum of N6.2 billion is being kept.

Born on September 1st,1963, Adoke was not known for any serious legal practice until he was brought to the limelight in 2010 when he was appointed as Justice Minister by Mr Jonathan. Since then, there has been series of allegations of under the table deals by Mr Adoke using his official position. He has in the last 48 hours issued two statements to threaten protesting Nigerian workers to sack them and charge civil society activists involved in the protests with treason.

Last year, an online publication accused Adoke of taking bribes from an arranged sale of moribund NITEL property in Area 11, Abuja and buy back of same from Adoke’s kinsman popularly called Alhaji AA Oil. Adoke’s share of the deal was said to have been diverted to build a massive mansion for him on Gana street, Abuja. Though he denied ownership of the property saying it belongs to AA Oil, finishing works have since stopped on the sprawling property which was being worked on day and night before the scandal broke out.

Also last year, a civil society group called Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders,CACOL petitioned Nigeria’s anti-graft police, EFCC to probe allegations that Mr Adoke collected bribes running into over $23 million US dollars from a plea bargain deal he arranged between government and some multinational firms including Siemens, Halliburton and Julius Berger.Ironically, Adoke supervises the EFCC that is supposed to investigate the various corruption allegations against him. It is yet to be seen whether the present head of the agency, Mr Ibrahim Lamorde will have the courage to probe graft allegations against Adoke which his predecessor failed to touch.

*ireports-ng.com promises to make this the beginning of series of reports on the sleaze by top officials of the Jonathan’s administration.

According to the Editor in a note at the end of this story, “ireports-ng.com promises to make this the beginning of series of reports on the sleaze by top officials of the Jonathan’s administration.” Exactly one week after, not a single line has been written on any other top official of Jonathan’s administration! This, surely, is another evidence that what they did is a mere hatchet job on Adoke. Big shame!

  • Odo Precious

Honestly, this story is mere hogwash and does not deserve the space it occupies. Who is the writer trying to fool? He does not even know that the account numbers he proudly quoted in his story do not exit as Nigerian banks have since changed to 10-digit account numbers on the instruction of the CBN. What a shame!

  • One person with such huge sum of monies! He indeed a disgrace to Nigerians.
Lets learn to clean our eyes b4 cleaning that of others.
How can such Judge judge a case in the court of law. Birds of the same feathers. I cry 4 my country, NIGERIA.

There is no gainsaying that corruption is a cankerworm that has eaten away the soul of the public service in Nigeria. The rot is so deep that corruption almost readily passes as an alias for public service in the country. The populace seem to have resigned to the ugly happenstance and have almost accepted corruption as a fated attribute of every public servant. The distrust is so rife that surprise usually greets honesty when found in a public servant. Hence, our people are more inclined to listening to accusations of corruption against a public servant than protestations of innocence no matter how passionate. But are all our public servants necessarily corrupt? I doubt much. Can we safely conclude that once Mr A is a public servant, Mr A must be corrupt at all times in all things?
The allegations of corruption shot like a hot arrow against the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Mohammed Bello Adoke by a citizen reporter iRerport-ng.com turns up curious dimensions that warrant a questioning of this popular thesis. Can we conclude that ‘Mr Adoke is a public servant and therefore, must be necessarily guilty of every accusation of corruption’. Or can we say that once we read something on the internet, it must be true?
What is the measure of objectivity in the unfolding drama? iReports-ng.com accuses the AGF of mind boggling corruption. The blog lists a series of accounts in which it claims the AGF has stashed millions of pounds and dollars. The AGF in response accepts that like any other responsible citizen, he has accounts in banks which he fully declared to the Code of Conduct Bureau. He protests that he by no means has that kind of money. He invites the security agencies to investigate him thoroughly and begs his accusers to petition the EFCC against him.
This shouldn’t be a problem. Since iReport-ng.com is so certain of its allegations against the AGF, one would have expected a barrage of petitions: to the EFCC, ICPC and Code of Conduct Bureau. But alas! All we have is the old logic: ‘the AGF is a public servant, therefore, he must be as guilty as charged! After all, public servants are corrupt!’ True, corruption could almost pass for an alias for public service in Nigeria but it could as well be that this gentleman is not guilty of the accusations. Is it okay to heap the accusations on him simply because he is a public servant?
And the response of iReports–ng.com is, ‘resign first before the allegation can be investigated’. An impressive logic indeed! Suppose that end is what is intended ab initio? Is someone on a hatchet mission to oust the gentleman from office? What has happened to the concept of the benefit of doubt? Is someone fighting him through a faceless proxy? Sure, there is plenty of corruption in the public sector but corruption is not unknown on internet enterprises. What has happened to investigative journalism; what has happened to the standard practice of hearing from the other side? Sure we want to boot corruption out of Nigeria. Could iReports-ng.com be gracious enough to do the patriotic duty of putting a face to its accusations, turning it into a petition and helping to stem corruption in our beloved country? Or, could iReports-ng.com, in the esteemed tradition of wikileakes, publish hard evidence to support its allegations? I thought we are all agreed that Nigeria is a country of naïve fools?

  • idris

i do not think it,s surprising any longer in nigeria for a snr public officer to loot from govt, wat remains a big surprise is having a snr citizen of his calibre NOT STEALING frm govt

  • paul kasim

If it is true then we need to call on God of vegeance to visit the evil men of this country with fury vegeance

  • uzor

All dis money put togeda wud solve our PMS subsidy saga so why can’t dis beast prosecuted for dis lootn?

  • HENRY

Fellow Nigerians this is a nice info but my question how do we go about eradicating corruption in Nigeria?my suggestion is that if it has to be done GEJ should start from him cupboard insecticiding all cockroach that he has in there before he can be able to keep Nigeria in a better position so that no one can look at him on the face and say he collected bribe before appointing him minister or any position in the government.

  • socrates

Folks, we are not that naive. This is a season of propaganda. There is so much blackmail , mischief and opportunism in the air. The point is that the man in question has come out to deny the allegations with facts. What is left is for those making the allegations to impeach the facts he has stated. Where is the statement of account, who is the account officer, who made the lodgements? The man has challenged the authors to come up with a petition to the security agencies. Let the authors put a face to the allegations so that they can be challenged . Anybody can do a hatchet job against anybody. Put a face to the allegations . Julian assange of wikkileaks was never faceless . He always published his allegations with raw facts and hard evidences. In this spurious allegation, where are the facts , where are the pieces of evidence ?

    • E.O.Eke

Socrates, sorry to differ with you: I AM THAT NAIVE! iReports_ng is sufficiently well-regarded for this report to be taken seriously & investigated. He has given bank locations & acct numbers. It is for the managers of those banks to deny the existence of such accts. iReports does not have to know who made the lodgements or who the account officer is; nor does it even have to show us the bank statement: What if the bank does not release the statement to him, since he does not have regulatory authority? And since you yourself are not even using your real name, who knows if you’re merely defending your relative while pretending to be neutral?

  • Kayode originalsirkay

Exposing this people is not the solution, the soluton is to take this money from them and send them to jail for punishment

  • sesan yaqub

You can see that this corrupted so called leaders are selfishness, they are looted our public fund without any challenge and still they are not satisfied with it,So now they still want life to be miserable for the masses.God will judge them and they won’t know peace in their life

  • salhassan

indeed nigeria, a great nation in a great trouble, i dont blame anybody but the youth, what are we waiting for is time for us to arise and stand on our feets, we youth are @ the right position to transform our dear country and the only solution is by revolution, ARISE and say NO to CORRUPTION!!!!!!!!!

  • adenle

i am very sure dis set of corrrupt leaders will never have peace.GEJ u av already disappointed nigerian.okonjo wahala u are failure already.

  • soji

To okonjo iweala she knew that there we be an avenue for her to steal nigerian money that’s why she resigned from world bank because they don’t have chance to steal there.all of them must go.

  • ARAB 5

Adoke or what are you called! If you eventually escape these callous act of your in this world without being punished, you will never escape that of God almighty. Olori buruku!

  • James Atikporu

The issue is not finding these so called secret accounts of Adoke, but what should President Jonathan do with his corrupt minister- Adoke?
I will propose first that Adoke be sacked or relieved of his ministerial duties with immediate effect. Second his loots confisticated and finally tried in the courts for corruption charges and if found guilty be jailed in kirikiri, as example to other corrupt or potential corrupt leaders in the country.
    God help Nigeria

  • OAT

It has been established that a lot of our leaders (and indeed followers too) are corrupt. However, the report above and the information contained does not constitute a proof of these claims. Now, the burden of proof is on the authors of this report. Carry out your investigation to a logical conclusion and SHOW us the proof; not “TELL us”. For example; Post a scanned copy of the bank statements of these accounts showing his name, account number and address, a scanned copy of the mandate cards etc. Anyone can cook up your story and quote numbers.

I believe there’s corruption but ther burden of proof is on the accusers. Let’s be objective.

“Every leader that has betrayed the people and has contributed directly or indirectly to the sufferings of Nigerians, the curse is on you and you will never enjoy the money you’ve stolen ; neither shall your generations enjoy their lives; the blood of the innocent is on your Head”.

God Almighty will cease pease and happiness from these so called people

  • Ummee

In a true political sense and true political setting, there must be what is called” INDEPENDENCE OF THEJUDICIARY”, this is necessary because other wise all the rullings passed by the judiciary will be subjected to the government’s approval , which is not proper.
How ever, in a real democratic setting, there must be” EQUALITY BEFORE THE LAW” . When ever a country lack these 2 things, then chaos, political instability, corruption, a dormant state of backwardness etc, will prevail!
This is what Nigeria lack and all these dilemmas are the conseguences, so Nigeria should get ready 4 the upcoming consequences!

  • oiza

Adoke is a fool! So he is part of those dat is looting dis country? He shld be remove, he shld go back to kano to continue managing his yeye chamber! Folks, did Adoke declare his assets? If he did, then check it now you will see he must have stollen from our wealth either in trust for some higher oga because of the brazen impunity with which he does his robbery ! If Adoke did not declare his assets on assumption of office then he his currently one of the biggest criminals in Jonathan cabinet of house of thieves!

On AIT, Dokpesi’s TV, this morning, was another of those who think they own us, and could not only control our lives, but also would DEAL with us, should we fall out of line. This one was a female, from ?Security, but she was dressed in opulence as though she was off to a grand fun- party.. Her confidence was dictated by the amount of money in her bank balance. NO DOUBT, MULTIPLESNOF HER TAKE-HOME PAY.
    WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN..
THE ANSWER IS BLOWING IN THE revolutionary WIND, THAT WILL BOLW THEM OFF THEIR PEDESTAL PATCH.

…and Madam, a pregnant Nigerian woman has as much right as you have, coming to the AIT studio. IT IS CALLED FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT, AND IT IS ENSHRINED IN OUR CONSTITUTION.

I strongly believe that someday in this Country, THINGS WILL PERISH INTO THOSE THINGS OUT OF WHICH THEY HAVE THEIR BEING, FOR THEY WILL DEFINITELY RECOMPENSE FOR THEIR INJUSTICE, DUE TO THE ORDINANCE OF TIME. Its categorically unbearable…………….

  • Abbey

Anyway this is not a new thing to me, this is a corrupt country full of corrupt leaders, but am very very sure of one thing which is very very sure, if u think that all these money will buy heaven or kingdom of God for us…na na na, not possible, I want to assure of one thing, you will live on earth to regret this and perish on earth before u go to hell, coz there’s no room for you in heaven even that boy Jonathan, you are in hell on earth.

The curse of the Lord is in the house of a thief! Tyres cannot be thrown over them but the Lord sees them! The fierce anger of the Lord is upon their head to their generations following! Just as God plagued pharoah and his pple God will plague all Nigerian leaders from federal to state to local Parastatals who have turned Nigeria to a turmoil! They will never live to enjoy this money! Death, incurable disease is their potion 4ever in Jesus name amen!!!

  • Joseph Igbiks

From the first day Adoke was appointed AG I saw corruption & mismanagement on his face & I’ll never be wrong. Look at how he publicly castigated the EFCC for their activities and that they should bring before him any criminal matter before exposing such case to hearings of Nigerians. And my beloved President GEJ said he is on the part of Transformation with characters like Adoke, Just one day he’ll be consumed by his own FEC, if he doesn’t watch it God bless Mr President, God bless the federal Republic of Nigeria.

  • bello

This is unacceptable justice minister with these kind of money, we all call on GEJ to invistigate those accounts and prosecute him OLE, BARAWO

  • bayo

They r all just thieves. Imagine this small boy still under 50 yrs. When and how will he spend such money.

  • this is unfair but there is one thing i know for sure they ‘ll pay for all they r doing oneday.

  • Oleng

If anybody is in doubt, he/she can go and check out the owner of the accounts mentioned. I do not know why Nigerians have such thick skin that nothing move them. There is no doubt that the minister is into shady deals in his so call plea bargains. The criminals simply go to him to bargain for freedom. Why then are we surprise he is so stupendously rich?

  • Osmond cj

This must be adequately investigated and if he’s found guilty he must be duly punished accordingly. I also hope the necessary judiciary body should stripe him off of the highly reputable honour of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. Our problem in Nigeria is that we have many criminals in high places.

  • AFAM

These men have finished this country. This is not fair. What will they do with all this money and they are telling us to sacrifice. Maybe Nigerians should give these few our blood to drink because they have no pity whatsoever. NIGERIA WAKE UP!!!

The foundation of Nigeria democracy is laid on corruption and until we go back to the foundation no result will manifest because if the foundation is destroyed what shall the righteous do. You can give what you dont have, like will always beget like- corrupt leaders will always breed corrupt policies. And unless all these old corrupt elders fade away for a fresh breed of truthful youths to take over i am afraid for Nigeria. Arise Nigeria! Arise the youths of Nigeria!

  • Lydea

This is unbelievable. It’s like a fairy tale. Could govt official be this daring? Admittedly corruption is tantamount to cancer in Nigeria, but is there no restraint again? Where is the fear of God? If this is true, I am afraid for my country, Nigeria.

  • Kunle Adegbite

In my opinion, such information should be taken with a pinch of salt.

There might be some element of truth but obviously account numbering system in Nigerian Banks have been standardized to 10-Digits (NUBAN Standard). In essence, one needs to be careful when making insinuations.

  • rakiya gambo

Nigerians ar waitn to see what GEJ nd his so called new EFCC boss will do about this issue.

  • Azeez Kazeem Adisa

Imagen! Nigerian leaders are just too corrupt, the CBN governor cant claim he doesnt either directly or indirectly aware of these huge sum deposit afterall there are rules & regulations guiding the bank deposits & operations as a whole. Nigerian leaders, Egocentric! Well the masses just have to stand by it, IT IS TIME FOR THE REVOLUTION, STAND UP NIGERIANS, OCCUPY NIGERIA. If we dont do it now, it just a shift to the future, let’s do it once and for all. No to Corruption, No to bad Governance, No to Dictatorship, We deserve a better Nigeria. NIGERIA: GOOD PEOPLE, GREAT NATION.

  • Mosunmola

A big thank you to i.report.ng.co for this publication. Those who claim that Nigerians are gullible believing the contents of the publication have not given us contrary reports of investigations carried out by them. No wonder the CBN governor stated that he finds huge sums of moneys in certain accounts and the owners of the accounts cannot be prosecuted. Nigeria is in big trouble if a whole Attorney General of the Federation can be involved in such level of corruption. It is a big disgrace tȍ the legal profession. No one knows Adoke truly. We read Law Reports and we don’t find his name in any landmark judgment of the court. Its a pity. In fact, I as a citizen weep for Nigeria. There is pervasive poverty all around in Nigeria. May God help us.

  • Alao

Nawa ǂøя Nigerian. GEJ cannot takle corruption because He ΐƨ already soaked iϞ Ȋ̝̊̅†.

  • femi

The truth is Sanusi (CBN Gov) is also corrupt. Do think these fraudulent practices can take place in any bank without the support of the CBN Gov?.. I think revolution is the only solution to our problem. We need to sweep away all present Govt parastatus and appoint new once, starting from the Attorney General. A country with a corrupt AG is in jeopardy. What happened in Libya last year needs to happen in Nigeria right now. Youths are you ready?

  • adeleke babatunde

Pls we need more, they must be brought to book

    Good with this great information

  • jdms

Is GEJ and his team reading this? In a sane country, this DIShonourable minister will first be placed on suspension having established a prima facie case against him while the allegations are thoroughly investigated. But trust GEJ, mum is the word. The subsidy that commoners pay for corruption in Nigeria far outweighs the petrol subsidy he is bent on removing. If truly he is courageous, let him face the corruption monster. I bet he does not have the liver.

  • vuga

How very gullible nigerians are and how mischevious you online news sites canbe. Any reasonable person reading this would know that it is not only false but also very mischevious .it is quite pathetic how foolish nigerians are to believe such lies. How and whu wd a serving public official keep such huge amounts in such local accts when he can easily launder them abroad?
Please try and learn to carry out proper investigation before making publications or you guys run a risk of ridiculing yourselves all in a bit to castigate public officials. If you don’t have facts to publish try posting funny pics or fiction rather than peddling malicious lies as news reports.
