Boko Haram Bombers Hit Buhari’s National Security Adviser, Gen. Monguno…25 Killed, 62 Injured

Dare-devil Boko Haram bombers today took their terror to the doorstep of the serving National Security Adviser, NSA, Major Gen. Babagana Monguno by attacking his hometown, Monguno at the same time they detonated explosives in Maiduguri, both in Borno state killing no fewer than 25 people with 62 others badly injured. The state governor Kashim Shettima has however said that only 18 persons died in the blasts.
Monguno, is about 135 kilometres to Maiduguri, the troubled state capital and was liberated from Boko Haram’s occupation just late February. Speaking with journalists on the latest attack today, Shettima said 18 people were killed in the twin explosions even as he described the attackers as lunatics but assured the end of insurgency would soon end.
Survivors of the attack with various degree of injuries brought to Maiduguri on Monday said the bomb attack occurred near a local market where onions are sold (Kasuwa Albasa) on Sunday evening, causing confusion among residents. The second occurred few minutes later within the same area. They said about 30 people may have died in the blasts
Sources at the State Specialists Hospital Maiduguri said those injured from the Monguno blasts were brought to the hospital in about five vehicles but were diverted to the University Teaching Hospital (UMTH) because facilities at the Specialists Hospital are already over-stretched due to the number of victims of the Ajilari-Gomari Sunday explosions in Maiduguri being treated there.
