6 Fulani Herdsmen Arrested Over Kidnap Of Falae…Police Recover Part Of Ransom Money From Suspects

Three weeks after the abduction of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae by suspected Fulani herdsmen, six persons who allegedly participated in the kidnap have been arrested by the Police.
Falae, a chieftain of the Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere and National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, was on Monday, September 21, abducted at his Ilado farm along Igbatoro road, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State and later released on Thursday September 24, after his family reportedly paid an undisclosed sum as ransom.
The suspects who are all Fulani herdsmen were picked up in Ondo , Ekiti and Niger states where they were said to have dispersed to spend the ransom money. The police team that tracked and arrested the suspects was said to have recovered an undisclosed sum of money, which was part of the ransom collected from Falae from one of the suspects.
According to a member Of the Falae’s family, three of the abductors were arrested last Sunday in Niger state by the security operatives while three others were arrested in Ondo and Ekiti states.
The source said the suspects were arrested about a week ago and have been under interrogation with the Special Anti Robbery Squad ( SARS) of the state Police command, adding that security agents are still trailing seven other members of the syndicate.
Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph could not confirm the development saying all issues relating to Falae’s kidnap has been taken over by the force headquarters.
